How Chitly works
Photo in, checked by a named person, in on time, confirmed every evening.
- Photo in
- Checked
- Confirmed every evening
How it works
Simple daily routine
- 1Photo in by WhatsApp or email, same day.
- 2Your app reads the photo where it can.
- 3A named person checks every record against the photo and fixes gaps.
- 4We watch the two working days.
- 5A message every evening, and a weekly report by WhatsApp or email.
What we check on every ticket
- Date and ticket number
- Vehicle and carrier
- Gross, tare and net weight
- Waste code and description
- Estimated weight marked as an estimate
The rule
The rule, in one minute
Every load you receive must be recorded with Defra within two working days. The rule is live in England and Wales now, and has been since 1 October 2026. Scotland starts on 1 January 2027. Northern Ireland is covered by the rule too, but we do not work there yet.
Errors can be corrected within one month. Defra charges £26 a year per organisation. The first payment is due by 31 January 2027.
register for digital waste tracking, the two-working-day rule, register and pay Defra.
You stay legally responsible for your records.
Your app
Keep the app you already use
Names belong to their owners. We're not linked to any of them. Already on one? We'll confirm we can work inside it before you sign.
No weighbridge? That's fine.
Defra lets you record an estimated weight, marked as an estimate. At setup we help you build a simple estimate sheet by container and waste type, and you approve it.
Remedy ladder
If we get it wrong
- 1 Our mistake: fixed free.
- 2 A missed deadline: next month free.
- 3 Out of pocket or a regulator letter: that month refunded too.
- 4 Above that: we help you answer the regulator, with our full records, free.
Capped at £1,000 per yard per year, all claims together.
Fines, late or unreadable photos, your own errors and app or Defra outages are not covered.
Subject to our written agreement.
Why Chitly is different
Apps give you software. We do the checking and keep the deadline, inside the app you already have.
Objection answers where they come up
- I already have an app: keep it, we work inside it.
- I don't want to give out my password: you don't, we get our own login.
- I'm locked in: month to month, 30 days' notice.
